On December 23 in the specialized scientific council D 55.051.06, there was a successful defense of the dissertation for the degree of candidate of economic sciences in the specialty 08.00.03 - economics and management of the national economy on " Organizational and economic principles of smart grid implementation in the energy sector of Ukraine" by Ihor Vakulenko (scientific supervisor - head of the department of marketing Oleksii Lyulyov).
The dissertation aroused the interest of members of the specialized scientific council, who noted its high scientific level and thorough preparation of the dissertation on the researched issues. They confirmed this conclusion by unanimous vote for the award of the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.

On 8th of December, the students of several training programs of different levels (Master studies and Undergraduates) were united by the lecture provided by designers, who created the brand of Sumy city. The representatives of the creative agency LLC “Chocolate”, Yulia Yevenko, the chief director and Iryna Bozadjieva, the manager of the clients support department, kindly agreed to be the guest lecturers. The lecture-seminar took place in two languages – in Ukrainian and English. That allowed to involve the students who study at Sumy State University in English and came from other countries. During the meeting, our guest lecturers shared their experience collaborating with Sumy Council on the city brand creation. They encouraged the auditorium to pursue city promotion using positive impressions about the city. The seminar dragged on because of the discussion that transformed into ideas exchange about how to attract “your type of a client”, how to make positioning effective, and how much does it cost – the efforts and own investments – to create the product that you are going to be proud in years.
More & more new discovery & knowledge for our students from amazing guests! This time we had Sofia Anzheliuk, Volunteer Coordinator in media-project Ukraïner visiting us on google-meet on Monday, December, 7th on the invitation of Tetyana Mayboroda, lecturer of Oleg Balatskiy Department of Management. The idea of such a webinar devoted to social projects and volunteer movement came during studying the course “Corporate Social Responsibility” with 3d year students of the degree program “Management”, which was supported & also joined by Head of the Department Dr. Hanna Shvindina, by 2nd year Management students & by 4th year students of the degree program “International Economic Relations and their lecturer Nadiya Kostyuchenko.
We have spoken on the following topics:
- UkraÏner as a successful example of non-profit enterprise;
- Volunteer community as new value of our skills;
- Challenges in the volunteer management;
- Outcomes which we never expected;
- Case of special project of Holodomor;
- and many other aspects during the Q&A session.

Truly intercultural project took place for Sumy State University students between 4th -16th of December: “Intercultural Communications & Leadership: a Dialogue for Successful Cooperation”. The 4 session workshops were designed & conducted by Tetyana Mayboroda – lecturer of Oleg Balatsky Management Department, Vice-director of ARI FEM for coordination of collaboration with foreign institutions and for work with international students, who implements social projects in collaboration with Lifelong Learning Centre. The projects was also supported by the Department of Youth & Sports of Sumy Regional Administration.
The intercultural team was presented by 20 participants: 4 Ukrainian students & 16 international students from Zambia, Nigeria, Turkey, Ghana, Angola, Namibia & India. Moreover, it was interdisciplinary team: students majoring in Medicine, Management, Law, & International Economic Relations.
On December 1, 2020, a practice-oriented event within the frame of the course “Analysis and Management of Business Ideas” was held for the 1st year students of Master’s degree, specialty “Project Management”, lecturer Alyona Yevdokymova. The lecture was attended by a practitioner (graduator of the Department of Management, specialty “Project Management”), Maksym Novikov, the head of projects and programs of JSC “Sumygaz”. He shared his own project management experience, the specifics of developing commercial large projects and micro-projects. He also has extensive experience in implementing the socially-oriented projects.
The issues of the difference in the implementation of commercial and social projects, as well as the specifics of today's projects in pandemic conditions interested the students most of all.
On 15th of December, the undergraduates in Management studies participated in the workshop «LEAN. How to develop business?». The administrative and management studies students are keen to know how to create a successful business and run it. At the seminar, the leading lectors from Lviv Business School and experts in Sustainable Development Goals implementation shared their experience about the business design towards modern trends. As a term, Lean manufacturing was coined in 1988 and was transformed from Toyota’s Operating Model. This principle of lean manufacturing, if implemented, may lead to leaps in resources economizing and innovation acceleration. The experts performed the primary approach “to think globally, act locally” through the set of cases of Ukrainian enterprises and SMEs.
An online lecture on strategic health management was held on December 3 for GR-901 bachelor students in Public Health.
The head of the polyclinic department of the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans (communal non-profit enterprise of the Sumy Regional Council) Zayets Halyna Viktorivna was invited to the lecture. The topic of the lesson was "Medical Information Systems".
The practice-oriented event was organized by a senior lecturer of the Department of Management, Ph.D. on public administration Demikhov O.
Students received "first-hand" information on the development of automation in health care. In particular, Zayets G. spoke about automated medical information systems that allow you to quickly and efficiently set up electronic document management, flexibly build work with patients, keep operational records of administrative staff, control all organizational and financial issues of the medical institution.
The School of Change Leaders was launched on November 27 and completed successfully. This project received the Sumy City Council's support as the winner of the project competition among the civil society institutions in December last year.
"School of Change Leaders of " is a unique project aimed at building civil society, forming a stable civic position in modern conditions, gaining practical project design skills and costs processing of participatory community budgets.
The project manager is Larysa Valenkevych, PhD., the project manager of the NGO "Center for Lifelong Learning", associate professor of Oleg Balatsky department of management. She took care of that project for many years, and now it was scaled-up and went online. The trainers and consultants were well-known project management experts, winners of project competitions, specialists in the field of public administration, experienced facilitators, and international keynote speakers.
The intensive training program lasted on November 27 and 28 online, in which high school students of Sumy UTC took part. During the training, participants gained knowledge of project management, drafting project applications to achieve the grants, and designing their projects.
Head of the department, Dr.Sci., Ph.D. Shvindina Hanna became a guest Speaker at the Bielsko-Biala School of Finance and Law. The lecture-discussion took place on the 3rd f December and was devoted to the Coopetition Strategy, which is in the focus of the research interests of our colleague. Aleksander Sapiński is the initiator and moderator of this meeting and the representative of the Bielsko-Biala School. The phenomenon of the coopetition is relatively new and gained its prominence since 1996 after the publication of “Co-opetition” by A. Brandenburger and B. Nalebuff (cooperation with competitors).
